Threadhead Spotlight: Isabel Reyn

  1. Who are you / what's your story?

Hi! My name is Isabel but most people call me Izzy. I am from Las Vegas, Nevada and I am currently a senior at a prestigious arts conservatory called Las Vegas Academy, where I major in dance. I have been dancing for about 8 years now, in a wide variety of styles: from jazz, to hip hop, to ballet, but my absolute favorite is contemporary. While being a competitive dancer, I have participated in a variety of national competitions, as well as regional dance festivals and exhibitions. I have a profound appreciation for the arts, and love utilizing dance as a form of self-expression.

  1. What do you do and how did you get there?

My other main passions are fashion and photography. Vintage and thrifted pieces are my favorites, I love hunting for unique pieces, or ones with a story, and I’m not afraid to be bold with my fashion choices, or at least my friends always tell me so. As of now, I run my own Depop Shop where I sell upcycled thrifted pieces, you can find it at https://www.depop.com/izzabelly/. I combine this with my passion for photography and editing by taking immense pride in my Instagram feed, you would be able to find most of my outfits featured on there (it's @isabel.reyn). Likewise, I have created my own Lightroom presets that I hope will be for sale soon. I am super inspired by travel and the outdoors as well. Though I constantly maintain a busy schedule, I try to travel as much as possible. I find that it’s beneficial even to explore different states or places within your state, it can help you gain a fresh perspective. Nonetheless, I will be making my first trip out of the country this coming spring (Spain), and I can’t wait.

  1. Aspirations? What's the big dream? We want to know all of it.

Despite my interest in the arts, my main goal is to become a doctor, specifically an Oncologist, and specialize in cancer research. I am your typical, straight-A honors student in this perspective, but I will be attending a university (which one, I haven’t decided yet) next fall as a biology major on the Pre-med track. I hope that my background in the arts will help me provide a new outlook and that I can truly make an impact in this field.

  1. What are you listening to right now (music, podcasts, audiobooks)?

For music, I have soooo many favorites but to name a few: Sweet Emotion by The Kooks, Tungs by the Frights, Valerie by Amy Winehouse, and iridescence by Brockhampton.

Books: Right now I’m reading War Storm by Victoria Aveyard (it’s the 4th book in the series, I HIGHLY recommend if you are a fantasy fan ;) )

  1. Favorites (Food, places, things to do etc.)?

My dad is from Mexico, so I’m a big fan of all things Mexican food. My favorite Mexican food place in Vegas is called Frijoles but there’s also a BOMB authentic taco stand near my school. One of my most frequent pastimes is hiking. My favorite places to hike are Mt Charleston in Las Vegas, as well as Zion National Park in Utah.

  1. Best advice you've gotten?

So far, the best advice I have ever received is from my mom. It is to not allow comparison to steal my joy. As a young woman, I am at a stage in my life where there is constant pressure to conform, especially from social media, and this can be detrimental to personal happiness and mental health. I try to avoid comparing myself to others, in order to focus on my own goals and becoming the best person I can be. From this advice, I found that the best way to achieve personal fulfillment is to live up to your own standards, rather than someone else's.

  1. Best advice you can give?

The best advice I can give is to not take life too seriously. You only have one chance to enjoy each moment as you are, so it's extremely important to soak in each moment and live life to the best of your ability :)
